A new physician, Dr. Christina Tuomi, DO, has joined the active medical staff at South Peninsula Hospital, the hospital announced in a press release on Monday. Tuomi is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is now seeing patients at Homer Medical Center and in the Emergency Department.
Born and raised in Anchorage, Tuomi earned her medical degree at Des Moines University in Iowa. She returned home to Alaska to complete her residency in family medicine at the Alaska Family Medicine Residency, and practiced family medicine for the last several years in Dillingham, Alaska.
Tuomi enjoys caring for all age ranges of patients, particularly building relationships with multi generations within one family, the press release said. She is excited about practicing within the umbrella of the hospital, making it easy to stay connected with her patients throughout their range of care. From the exam room, to specialty care, during a hospital visit and through home health, she is excited to provide continuity for her patients as their primary healthcare provider.
Tuomi moved to Homer this summer with her husband and two daughters. Call Homer Medical Center at 235-8586 to schedule an appointment.
The recent expansion of the Homer Medical Center building was done to add enough space to add providers to meet the current demand for primary care in the community, the hospital noted in the press release. The addition of Tuomi is a continuation of this effort to meet the growing demand.
