Homer Tri on deck this weekend

The annual Homer Mariner Triathlon is coming up this weekend and promises as much fun and friendly education as ever.

It all kicks off at 8 a.m. Saturday at Homer High School with a 1,000 yard swim in the Kate Kuhns Aquatic Center pool. From there, athletes will take off on their bikes for a 15 mile ride up East Hill Road and down West Hill Road to the Homer Spit. The race ends with a 5 mile run back up from the Spit to the high school.

Participants are asked to register either as individuals or as teams of two to three.

“This feel-good community event brings together hardcore athletes and fitness novices alike, with all proceeds benefiting the (Homer High School) Swim and Dive team,” according to a press release from Race Director Paul Story.

Each participant will receive a commemorative T-shirt courtesy of Cycle Logical, this year’s sponsor. The top three men and women in each age group will also get custom-made medals in the shape of the Mariner wheel.

Participants must pick up their bibs the night before the race. They can do this from 4-6 p.m. Friday at Cycle Logical.
