Brother and sister Jai and Elena Badajos of Homer traveled to Jeffersonville, Vermont to compete in the United States Junior Disc Golf Championship in early August.
USJDGC is one of the largest junior disc golf events of the year and brings in competitors from all over the world.
For those who aren’t familiar, disc golf is similar to regular golf in that players count their total throws (strokes) to complete the course against other players in their division.
Discs are thrown towards a metal basket target and the hole isn’t completed until the disc comes to rest in the basket.
The lowest overall score wins.
The divisions of competition are age and gender based.
Elena competed in the female under 12 division and took second place. Jai competed in the male under 10 division and took first place.
Jai and Elena grew up on the Moose Pretzel disc golf course in the east skyline region of Homer and have been throwing discs since they could walk so it’s no surprise they did so well.
