Homer Broomball is starting up. This is open to anyone and everyone who plays or wants to learn more. There will be an open discussion reviewing last year’s season, setting a start date for this season and fundraising ideas at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at Grace Ridge Brewery. Come early for Jim Schloemer’s Brooks Range presentation at 5:30 p.m.
Homer High School
Cross Country runs in the Seward Invite on Friday, Sept. 8, as well as in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Championships on Tuesday, Sept. 12 in Homer.
Volleyball competes against Houston at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, against Joe Redington Jr./Sr. High School at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, and against Grace Christian School at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, all in the Alice Witte Gymnasium. Volleyball has an away game against Soldotna High School at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12.
Varsity football plays an away game against Seward at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. Junior Varsity also plays Seward, away, at 11 a.m. the same day.
Swim/Dive teams will compete in the Homer Invite — divers only at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, and swimmers only at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.

Homer High School
Cross Country — Both girls and boys cross country teams from Homer won out over Kodiak Sept. 1-2 at the Kodiak Invitational at Fort Abercrombie State Park in Kodiak. The Homer boys won 27-28, and the girls topped Kodiak 21-34.

Football — The Homer Mariners defeated Ketchikan 59-21 during an away game Friday, Sept. 1. Homer rushed a total of 452 yards. The Cougars (Voznesenka, Razdolna and Kachemak-Selo) fell to the Nikiski Bulldogs on Saturday, Sept. 2 at the Mariners’ field in Homer 40-18.
