Alaska State Troopers at 10:24 p.m. saw a wanted suspect near the Anchor River Grocery Store. While troopers arrested the 52-year-old man, he assaulted two troopers and resisted arrest, troopers alleged. The man was taken to the Homer Jail.
Troopers at 4:40 p.m. went to a three-car crash near Mile 49 Seward Highway. An Anchor Point couple, James Campbell, 62, and Margaret Campbell, 65, were killed when they were thrown from their Toyota pickup truck. Troopers said neither wore seat belts. Troopers said the crash happened when Richard Patterson, 47, of Sterling, driving a Chevrolet Blazer, and James Campbell, driving the Toyota, hit head on. Sara Lindemann, 35, of Anchorage, driving a GMC Yukon behind the Toyota, was unable to stop and rear-ended the truck. Cooper Landing, Moose Pass and Girdwood emergency medical services responded. Patterson was trapped and had to be extricated. He was taken to Providence Hospital Anchorage. Lindemann and her passengers were uninjured. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
