Alaska State Parks would like to thank all of the volunteers who participated in National Trails Day on Saturday, June 6.  Friends of Kachemak Bay State Park helped to organize the event, water taxis volunteered their vessels to transport volunteers, and HoWL registered volunteers and joined in projects. Past and current Alaska Conservation Corps members led volunteer groups and 50 volunteers from the community worked to improve the Kachemak Bay trails.  As the new District Ranger, I am constantly impressed by the effort the Homer community puts forth in caring for their State Park. Some of the tasks accomplished included:

• 50 feet of tread were regraded on North Grace Ridge along with brushing and tree removal.

• Alpine Ridge was cleared and minor brushing was conducted.

• Sadie Trail was cleared and brushed up to the alpine vegetation. 

• South Grace was partially cleared and the Coalition Trail was brushed.

• 100-plus pounds of trash were piled for removal on Glacier Spit including pieces of dock and styrofoam; an illegal structure was also disassembled.

• Fire rings were dispersed at Grewingk Lake.
