<p>Habitat for Humanity of South Kenai Peninsula is having a re-organization meeting today at 7 p.m. at Homer United Methodist Church. If you have ever had any interest in Habitat for Humanity, please come and share your ideas. For more information, call 235-3779. </p>
<p>Homer Community Recreation presents the three-day class Introduction to Silversmithing/Jewelry Making. Learn about the design and fabrication of jewelry and small metal objects involving silver, bronze, copper, nickel sheet and wire, in combination with other materials. Classes are 6-9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Homer High School. The cost to participate is $150 for new students, $90 for repeat students. <p>There will be a Kachemak Bay Birders trip on the Spit on Saturday. Meet at 10 a.m. in the parking lot between Lands End and the ferry dock (or meet to carpool at the parking lot at the base of the Spit on Kachemak Dr. at 9:45 a.m.). We will drive to different locations on the Spit looking for birds. Bring binoculars and a scope if you have one. This trip is cosponsored by the Kachemak Bay Birders and the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. The leader will be Michael Craig; for more information give him a call at 235-0631. Everyone is welcome to attend. There is no charge.</p>
<p>The Kachemak Bay Running Clubs fourth annual Run to the Altar Run/Walk is Saturday. This 13.3-mile course on paved, dirt and mud roads and trails is for walkers, joggers and runners. Walkers start at 9 a.m. and runners start at 10 a.m. at Homer High and finish on East Skyline Drive, .25-mile past the Wynn Nature Center. There will be lots of homemade food and shelter at the finish line. There is no fee to participate. For more information, call Megan at 299-0687.</p>
<p>A benefit auction for John Cox will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Down East Saloon. John is a volunteer firefighter and EMT, and is now in need of the communitys help in covering medical expenses. There will be several auctions held: a silent auction, a Chinese auction and a dessert auction. The auctions will need items (large and small) donated for this occasion. A chicken and dumplings dinner (Johns favorite meal) will be served, and all are welcome. For more information on donations, call 235-6002. </p>
<p>The next meeting of Kachemak Bay State Park Citizens Advisory Board is at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Kachemak Bay Estuarian Research Reserve Building on Kachemak Drive across from the Homer Airport. Agenda topics include Heli Ski permit applications, board member vacancies and budget requests.</p>
<p>Haven Worship Center on Pioneer Avenue (across the street from ReMax) is hosting a prayer gathering each Wednesday from noon-2 p.m., now through Nov. 6. The emphasis of this meeting is to pray for our nation following the examples in II Chronicles 7:14 and I Timothy 2:1-2. There is no political agenda. All are welcome. <p>Pioneer Clubs has kicked off for the 2012-13 school year. Kids ages 4 years through sixth grade can register for this weekly club at the Christian Community Church. Age-specific classes meet at the church every Wednesday evening from 6:20 to 8:30 p.m. and coincide with the Ignite! youth program for junior and senior high students. Fun and engaging activity badges include camping and hiking, arts and crafts, music and drama, team sports and games, and Bible lessons. The Pine Car Derby will be in November.
