Homer Police

July 28

A caller at 4:30 p.m. reported a theft from a boat stored in a storage yard on the Spit.

A caller at 10:54 p.m. reported a person shot an aggressive bull moose at a Skyline Drive address. Police responded.

July 29

A caller at 2:53 a.m. reported campers on the Spit being loud and disruptive. Police responded and advised the campers to keep it down.

A caller at 5:24 a.m. reported a building on fire on the Spit. Police and firefighters responded. A small fire had started in a planter by a building, causing damage to the exterior. The caller put out the fire while on phone with a dispatcher.

A person at 4:25 p.m. made a 911 call that a manhole cover behind a Homer Bypass business had been removed. Police contacted Public Works.

A person at 6:15 p.m. made a 911 call reporting a loose dog acted aggressively toward children in the Clover Lane area. The caller safely got children away from the dog. Police later contacted the dog’s owner.

A person at 10:28 p.m. made a 911 call reporting a drunk man stumbled into the road on the Spit. Police contacted the man and found all was OK.

A caller at 11:10 p.m. reported a 55-gallon drum of diesel fuel fell of a vehicle on East End Road. Police responded.

July 30

Police at 9:50 a.m. contacted 38-year-old man driving on Pioneer Avenue and arrested him for driving under the influence.

A caller at 1:13 p.m. reported a man made threatening gestures at him on the Spit.

July 31

A person at 1:15 a.m. made a 911 cal that a man refused to leave an Ocean Drive Loop home. Police responded and provided the man transportation.

A person at 6:58 a.m. made a 911 call of a driver passed out at gas pumps at a Bypass station. Police responded and had the vehicle towed. At 4:12 p.m. on Aug. 1 police served a search warrant on the vehicle.

A caller at 8:26 a.m. reported a theft from an Eagle View Drive mail box.

A person at 3:18 p.m. made a 911 call of people watching a moose and obstructing traffic on the Bypass.

A caller at 5:50 p.m. moving out of an East End Road home and taking items that are not his.

A caller at 6:41 p.m. reported a theft from a donation box on Ocean Drive.

Aug. 1

A caller at 12:46 a.m. asked police to do a welfare check on a person at a Main Street address. Police transported a woman to South Peninsula Hospital.

A caller at 12:40 p.m. reported a person drove a motorized vehicle on the Spit bike and pedestrian path.

A caller at 2:48 p.m. reported people at a Bonanza Avenue house that is supposed to be vacant. Police responded.

Aug. 2

A person at 1:08 a.m. made a 911 call of a man with a head injury at a Pioneer Avenue address. Police and medics responded and the man was taken to the hospital.

A caller at 9:08 a.m. reported a theft from a Sterling Highway room. Police responded.

A caller at 10:54 a.m. reported a woman trespassing at a Bypass address. Police charged a 27-year-old woman with trespassing.

A caller at 5:45 p.m. reported his pet cockatoo bird flew the coop on the Spit by getting out of the window of his vehicle. Some tourists later found the bird and brought it to the police station. Police notified the owner.

Aug. 3

A caller at 7:47 a.m. reported someone vandalized an excavator at an Ocean Drive Loop address.

A caller at 3:49 p.m. reported a possible wanted subject at a Lake Street address. Police responded and arrested a 56-year-old man on a warrant.

A caller at 5:45 p.m. reported a family member had died at a Rainbow Court home. Police and medics responded.

A caller at 10:12 a.m. reported the theft of a firearm from a Spit Road address.

Aug. 4

A caller at 12:39 a.m. reported someone in a vehicle with a rope having trouble pulling an unknown object up a cliff near Mile 170 Sterling Highway. Police responded.

Aug. 5

A person at 12:40 a.m. made a 911 call of a drunk man lying on the side of the road on Main Street. Police took the man into protective custody.

Police at 1:42 a.m. contacted a 33-year-old man at a Pioneer Avenue address and arrested him on an outstanding warrant.

A caller at 5:38 p.m. reported a runaway juvenile. Police contacted the juvenile and returned the young person to a responsible party.

A caller at 9:51 p.m. reported a physical altercation at a Jenny Way address. Police responded.

A caller at 10 p.m. reported a theft from a vehicle parked on the Spit.

A person at 11:31 p.m. made a 911 call of a domestic disturbance on the Spit near Ramp 2. Police responded and arrested a 25-year-old man for fourth-degree criminal mischief, domestic violence, and driving under the influence.

A caller at 11:58 p.m. reported a woman crying and saying she was afraid of her boyfriend on Ice Dock Road on the Spit. Police responded and arrested a 24-year-old woman for fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Aug. 6

A caller at 1:18 p.m. asked police to do a welfare check on a friend on the Spit. Police contacted the person and transported them to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

A caller at 4:12 p.m. reported an injured bird in a China Poot Street yard. Police notifed the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

A caller at 6:30 p.m. reported his vehicle might have been stolen. Police determined the vehicle had been impounded.

A caller at 9:24 p.m. reported a camper parking in a no-camping area of a Bunnell Street business.

A caller at 10:15 p.m. reported a drunk man dancing in the road on the Spit. Police responded but could not find the man.

A caller at 10:57 p.m. reported a possible gunshot in the West Hill and Highland Drive area. Police responded.

Aug. 7

A caller at 12:01 a.m. reported a shoplifter at a Bypass store who started to fight employees before police arrived and then fled the area. Police responded and found the suspect, a 44-year-old man, and arrested im on a probation violation and for concealment of merchandise.

A caller at 12:13 a.m. reported a man walking on the harbor boardwalk having a hard time walking. Police responded but could not find the man.

Troopers

July 27

Troopers responded to a report of an assault after the fact in Ninilchik. An investigation showed Keene Hendryx, 35 of Ninilchik, had assaulted his wife the previous night. Hendryx was charged with one count of fourth-degree assault.

July 30

Alaska State Troopers in Anchor Point received a report of a single vehicle in the ditch near mile post 153 of the Sterling Highway. Troopers responded and contacted the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, 24 year old Ronald James of Ninilchik, who appeared to be highly intoxicated. The subsequent investigation revealed James was operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and he was arrested for DUI. James was remanded at the Homer jail and released on his own recognizance.

Aug. 1

Maxim Kuzmin, 20, of Homer, was cited by the Valdez Wildlife Trooper for commercial fishing within 500 yards of a salmon stream, near Pigot Point. Kuzmin’s fish for the day was seized. Arraignment scheduled in the Cordova Court on 9-27-17.

Aug. 2

Troopers responded to a residence on Cape Ninilchik Ave in Anchor Point for a disturbance. An investigation showed Shannon Alman had consumed alcohol in violation of her conditions of release in a previous criminal case. Alman was arrested and remanded into the Homer Jail pending arraignment.

Torlend J. Flyum, 45, charge dismissed, second-degree criminal trespass.

Noemi Y. Ochoa, 18, charge dismissed, driving without a valid operators license.

David L. Inman, 40, charges dismissed, fourth-degree assault, two counts.

Dyani M. Falcone, 24, charge dismissed, second-degree criminal trespass.

Jackie R. Nordlinder, 55, charge dismissed, concealment of merchandise. She pleaded guilty to one count of concealment of merchandise, and was sentenced to 10 days in jail with 10 days suspended, and fined $500 with $500 suspended, ordered to pay restitution of $87.93; ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund; ordered to pay a $100 jail surcharge with $100 suspended; and was placed on probation for one year.

Krystal A. Waterbury, 40, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. She was fined $2,000 with $500 suspended and sentenced to 30 days in jail with 27 days suspended and credit for time served; ordered to pay $75 to support the Police Training Fund, a $150 jail surcharge with $100 suspended and the $66 cost of imprisonment; ordered to attend an alcohol safety action program and install an ignition interlock device; had her driver’s license revoked for 90 days; and was placed on probation for one year.

Sierra M. Steen, 27, pleaded guilty to fraudulent use of a stolen access device. She was sentenced to 20 days in jail with 20 days suspended; fined $1,000 with $1,000 suspended; ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund; ordered to pay a $100 jail surcharge with $100 suspended; ordered to pay restitution in an amount to be determined; ordered to complete 80 hours of community service and placed on probation for one year.
