Movie night success
The Fireweed Academy movie night at the Homer Theatre. The fee for admission was canned food to be donated to Share the Spirit. Fireweed collected tons of food and it was great how generous people were, said Fireweed Academy Secretary Janet Bowen. In addition to The Polar Express, Fireweed showed films made by their students that have been entered into the 90-second Newbery Film Festival. For more information, visit 90secondnewbery.com.

Winter program
McNeil Canyon Elementary’s winter program will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m. In planning ahead for the event, students are asked to dress as follows. For boys who will be wearing white shirts, one’s that are button down with a collar are preferred.
Corise’s kindergarten: black bottoms (pants or skirt), white top.
Anne’s first grade: boys: black pants, white shirts; girls: fancy, twirly, bright colored dresses.
Melon’s second and third grade: black, green or red bottoms, white top.
Kendall’s third and fourth grade: black bottoms, white shirts.
Bill’s fifth grade: dressy party clothes.
Joanna’s sixth grade: Hawaiian.
Student Store
The student council has taken over the running of the Student Store. It will be open on Tuesdays during lunch and recess beginning next week.
After-school cross country skiing
McNeil Canyon Elementary hopes to start their skiing program on Mondays after winter break. Joanna Greene will be the coach and she is looking for parent helpers.
