A driver at 8:36 a.m. was warned for speeding in a school zone at Pioneer Avenue and the Homer Bypass.
A driver at 8:41 a.m. was warned for speeding in a school zone at Pioneer Avenue and Woodside Avenue.
A caller at 4:16 p.m. made a Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately (REDDI) report on a vehicle at West Hill Road and the Sterling Highway. An officer contacted the driver.
Officers at 7:33 p.m. arrested a 64-year-old man for driving under the influence, at Spit Road and Kachemak Drive. He was also charged with refusing to submit to a chemical test.
A caller at 8:15 p.m. reported shoplifting after the fact at a business on Greatland Street. Officers issued a woman a trespassing advisement to keep her from the building.
A caller at 10:01 p.m. reported hearing the neighbors yelling on Eagleview Driver. Officers responded to the location and issued the neighbors a disorderly conduct warning.
An officer at 10:59 p.m. made a security check of a park on Ben Walters Lane and contacted two vehicles. A man was advised not to drive with a revoked operators license.
Dec. 13
A caller at 4:19 a.m. reported loud music coming from a neighboring residence on Skagit Circle. An officer responded to the location and the home’s registered owner turned the music down.
A caller at 7:41 a.m. requested a welfare check on her children en route to school on East End Road. An officer responded to the area but was unable to locate the vehicle.
A caller at 10:08 a.m. reported a burglary after the fact on Kachemak Drive. Officers responded to the scene.
A caller at 12:10 p.m. reported a suspicious vehicle parked on Bay Avenue, unoccupied. An officer responded to the area.
A caller at 2:06 p.m. reported a person that had previously been issued a trespass notice from a store on Greatland Street was back in the store. An officer responded to the scene and arrested a 24-year-old woman for trespassing and violating conditions of release. She was taken to the Homer Jail, and also charged with third-degree theft.
An officer at 4:21 p.m. warned a driver for speeding in a school zone on the Sterling Highway.
An officer at 4:24 p.m. transported a person for the Alaska State Troopers on Heath Street.
An officer at 7:02 p.m. contacted a wanted person on the Homer Bypass. The 56-year-old man was taken to the Homer Jail on an arrest warrant.
A driver at 9:57 p.m. was warned for failing to stop at a stop sign on the Homer Bypass.
Dec. 14
Multiple callers at 1:19 a.m. reported hearing gunfire and a vehicle drive off at Forest Glen Drive and Soundview Street. Officers responded to the area, but were unable to locate anything suspicious.
A caller at 3:55 a.m. reported loud music coming from a vehicle in a parking lot on Ben Walters Lane. An officer responded to the location and found the vehicle was turned off and unoccupied.
Dec. 15
South Peninsula Hospital at 8:17 a.m. requested officer assistance with a man at the ER at the hospital on Bartlett Street. An officer responded to the scene, but the man was gone on arrival.
A caller at 1:08 p.m. reported a tractor trailer sliding backward down the road at Mile 170 Sterling Highway.
Dec. 16
An officer at 10:26 a.m. contacted the owner of a vehicle on Highland Drive that was in violation of a city ordinance.
A caller at 11:58 a.m. made a REDDI report on a vehicle at East End Road and East Hill Road. An officer contacted the driver and didn’t note any impairment. The driver’s vehicle had an issue, so the officer warned the person not to drive the car and issued a warning.
A caller at 12:22 p.m. reported an open residential door on Beluga Place and requested that an officer assist with checking the residence. An officer responded to the scene.
A caller at 10:35 p.m. reported a man making suicidal threats via the telephone on East End Road. An officer contacted the man and found all was OK.
Dec. 17
A caller at 3:25 a.m. reported a barking dog on Mountain View Drive. An officer responded to the scene but was unable to make contact with the home’s registered owner.
A caller at 4:09 a.m. reported harassing phone communications on Sprucewood Drive. An officer contacted the other person regarding those communications.
A caller at 8:14 p.m. reported a civil custody dispute on FAA Road. Officers responded to the location of the dispute.
A caller at 8:45 p.m. reported suspicious vehicles at Bishop’s Beach. Officers responded to the location.
A caller at 9:38 p.m. reported a man walking down the roadway at East Bunnell Avenue and Beluga Place screaming and cursing. An officer responded to the scene but the man was gone on arrival.
Dec. 18
An agency at 12:10 a.m. requested assistance with an unlocked door of a public building on FAA Road. An officer responded to the scene to clear the building and found all was OK.
An officer at 1:32 a.m. assisted a woman with a loose dog at East End Road and Lake Street. The dog was returned to its owner.
A caller at 1:50 p.m. reported a wanted man on Lake Street. An officer responded to the scene and arrested the 22-year-old man on a warrant.
A caller at 7:09 p.m. reported a domestic violence situation in progress on Landing Street. Officers responded to the scene and arrested a 40-year-old man and he was charged with domestic violence-related third-degree assault, and two counts of domestic violence-related fourth-degree assault.
A 43-year-old man at 10:10 p.m. was arrested on an outstanding warrant on West Pioneer Avenue.
Troopers
Dec. 10
Alaska State Troopers in Soldotna at approximately 10:01 p.m. were notified of a disturbance in Anchor Point and that gunshots were heard. Troopers responded from Soldotna to the location. While troopers were outside the residence, a 47-year-old Anchor Point man opened the door to the residence and pointed a rifle at the troopers. He was shot once by a responding trooper. The man was transported to South Peninsula Hospital in Homer where he was treated for his injury, stabilized and sent to Anchorage for further treatment. Soldotna General Investigation Unit (GIU) responded to the scene and is conducting the scene investigation. At the conclusion of this investigation, the case will be turned over to the Alaska Department of Law, Office of Special Prosecutions to determine if the use of force was legally justified under Alaska law. The Alaska State Trooper involved in the shooting incident that fired his service weapon is identified as Trooper Matthew Wertanen, a 12-year veteran of the Department of Public Safety.
Dec. 12
Alaska State Troopers in Soldotna at 1:43 a.m. responded to Birch Haven Road in Anchor Point to a report of a domestic disturbance in progress. Upon arrival, investigation revealed both parties had been consuming alcohol and an argument and physical altercation ensued. Troopers said a 23-year-old Fairbanks man had physically assaulted his 18-year-old live-in girlfriend who called 911 reporting the assault. Troopers arrested the man for domestic violence related second-degree assault and domestic violence related fourth-degree assault. He was transported to Homer Pretrial where he was remanded and was held without bail.
Alaska State Troopers at approximately 2:58 p.m. received a report that at 34-year-old Homer man violated a domestic violence protective order (DVPO). Investigation revealed that the man contacted the petitioner (protected person) in violation of the DVPO. Homer police contacted at his residence in Homer. The man was transported to and remanded into the Homer Jail.
Dec. 13
Alaska State Troopers at 11:30 a.m. responded to a REDDI report in Ninilchik. The REDDI vehicle was contacted in the Ninilchik Post Office parking lot and troopers contacted the driver and identified her as a 34-year-old Ninilchik woman. An investigation showed she was driving the vehicle under the influence of controlled substances. Further investigation showed the woman was in violation of her conditions of release in a previous criminal case. She was arrested and remanded into the Homer Jail.
Alaska State Troopers at 10:30 p.m. responded to a residence on North Fork Road in Anchor Point for a report of an assault. An investigation showed a 40-year-old Anchor Point man had assaulted an ex-girlfriend. During the investigation, troopers also contacted a 38-year-old Ninilchik woman, who was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest. Further investigation showed the woman was on conditions of release which prohibited her from being in contact with the Anchor Point man or at his residence. Both were arrested and remanded into the Homer Jail.

She was fined $2,000 with $500 suspended and sentenced to 30 days in jail with 27 days suspended; ordered to pay $75 to support the Police Training Fund, a $150 jail surcharge with $100 suspended and the $66 cost of imprisonment; ordered to attend an alcohol safety action program and install an ignition interlock device; had her driver’s license revoked for 90 days; and was placed on probation for one year.
