Homer visitor “Kajun” Kenny Joffrion stands by his truck and refrigerated trailer loaded with fish, red beans and rice as he prepared to head south to Houston, Texas. Reached by phone in Montana last week, Joffrion said he planned to arrive in Houston on Monday and start cooking for Hurricane Harvey victims.

“I’m going to go down and do what I do,” he said.

Joffrion, a Cajun from Gonzales, La., had spent the summer visiting his aunt Shirley Timmreck, a Homer artist. He took an Alaska shaped rock and had people who donated money or supplies sign the rock. Wes Head of Beluga Air donated $500, he said.

Joffrion also has a big sign on his truck that says “Alaska: Thinking of you.” He plans to hand out pamphlets promoting Homer at his kitchen.

“Anywhere I travel, I try to promote Homer and Cajunism,” he said.
