Local man retires after years of service

If shoppers frequent Safeway regularly, chances are they’ve seen or met Terry Elliott.

The Homer resident has worked there since about 1989, said Independent Living Center Executive Director Joyanna Geisler. Even she and Elliott aren’t sure of the exact date.

“I’ve known Terry for … probably 30 years,” she said. “…A lot of folks have probably… seen Terry.”

Elliott completed his last shift at Safeway the same day he turned 62. He decided to finally retire and will move to Palmer to live with his brother, Paul, after calling Homer his home for so long.

A boy scout at the age of 15, Elliott has also volunteered with that organization for around 40 years, Geisler said.

“I think he’s a particularly loyal individual,” she said.

Elliot said he’s glad to be retiring and moving on to be with his brother.
