There was definitely a buzz of community energy at Homer High School Mariner homecoming events Friday and Saturday.
“All that jazz” was the theme of Friday night’s parade. Judges Homer Mayor Beth Wythe, retired teacher Sharon Thompson, former mayor Jim Hornaday, community member Ken Castner and teacher Tim Daugherty gave the floats a critical eye as they traveled between Homer High School’s east and west entrances. Passing motorists honked, street-lining crowds cheered and youngsters filled their pockets with candy thrown by students on floats representing Paul Banks Elementary School, Homer Middle School and the high school’s freshman, sophomore, junior and senior class.
Judging results included:
Most enthusiastic: Homer Middle School;
Most colorful: senior class;
Jazziest: junior class;
Blue and gold award: sophomore class;
Mariner pride, i.e. best of show:

Crowned as the high school’s homecoming royalty were:
• King Quinn Daugharty and Queen Zoia Basargin, seniors
• Prince Filip Reutov and Princess Tisha Lovett, juniors
• Prince Johann Kallelid and Erica Jones, sophomores
• Prince Daniel Anderson and Princess Maryhanna Bowe, freshmen
• The Paul Banks Peanuts sent royalty representatives as well, with Maddie Moore and Aiden Clark wearing sparkling crowns.
