Alaska Division of Forestry and Kachemak Emergency Services firefighters stopped about a 1-acre fire from spreading to nearby homes late Thursday, June 15. Firefighters responded about 7:30 p.m. June 15 to the fire off Wilderness Way at Mile 9.5 East End Road.
According to a press release from State Forestry, the fire in grass and hardwood forest initially threatened structures about 100 feet away.
An air tanker dropped three partial loads of fire retardant to help firefighters secure a line around the fire.
By 10 p.m. firefighters had the fire under control. The cause of the fire is unknown.
