Homer High’s track and field team brought home some personal best records along with their medals from the Pro Whit meet at the Dome in Anchorage over the April 15 weekend. The team will attend the Kenai Invite meet this weekend.
Anna Brock placed third in shot put with a distance of just over 30 feet, a new personal best record. Briea Gregory placed fifth in the discus event, throwing the discus by approximately 7 feet more than her previous record of 77 feet and 7 inches, said head track and field coach Bill Steyer. Gregory’s new record is 84 feet and 5 inches.
“(It’s) pretty significant. It’s like a breakthrough,” Steyer said.
Aurora Waclawski placed second overall in the 400-meter open event. Lauren Evarts placed in the both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdle, earning fourth and second overall, respectively. Evarts time of 16.5 seconds for the 100-meter hurdle is a personal best and the second time Evarts completed the event in under 17 seconds, Steyer said.
The girls team also took third place overall in the 4 by 200 relay and fifth place in points overall.
“I think our 4 by 2 (relay) was the best because we completely blew out the competition in our heat by a good 20 meters,” Waclawski said.
Representing the boys, Jake Ritcher placed third in the 100-meter race.
