Homer Electric Association would like to thank everyone who helped make our recent Energy and Conservation Fairs a great success. The fairs at the Kenai Middle School and West Homer Elementary School attracted more than 800 people who received information about energy efficiency, renewable energy, recycling and other topics related to this year’s theme, “Safe, Responsible Energy Solutions.”
There is a long list of folks who deserve special recognition starting with our 2012 Gold sponsors: Hilcorp Alaska, Touchstone Energy, Stanley Ford and Tesoro. Silver sponsors included Home Depot, Alaska Community Development Corp., Kenai Peninsula Builders Association, Alaska Housing Finance Corp., Spenard Builders Supply, Brown’s Electric Supply, Grant Aviation, Alaska Railroad, Alaska Warm Wood and HiSpeed Gear.
This year’s door prizes were graciously provided by Grant Aviation, Alaska Railroad and Dan’s TV & Appliance.
Our new children’s activity, Louie the Lightning Bug’s Conservation Voyage, was a huge hit. A special thanks goes to the Kenai River Brown Bears hockey team who spared a couple players to help teach the young voyagers about recycling and energy conservation. Also, thanks to support from Homer Electric employees, Magpies Pizza, Dan and Shelly Funk, Sterling Happenings and the Lundell family for their time and effort to collect recycled items.
Thank you to the following businesses that participated in the fairs and shared their expertise with HEA members: Ace Dragon Coatings & Foam, Alaska Community Development Corp., Alaska Craftsman Home Program, Alaska Efficient Energy Solutions, Alaska Housing Finance Corp., Alaska Infrared LLC, Alaska Warm Wood Heating, Alaskan Wind Industries, Amso’s Carpets and Interiors, Brown’s Electric Supply, Central Peninsula Garden Club, Cook Inlet Keeper, Cooperative Extension, Dan’s TV and Appliance, Green Star, HiSpeed Gear, Home Depot, Installations Services, Kangen Water, Kenaitze Indian Tribe, Quality Energy & Automation Enterprises, Renewable Energy Alaska Project, ReGroup, Regulatory Commission of Alaska, Spenard Builders Supply, Stanley Ford, State of Alaska Heating Assistance Program, Sustainable Homer, T&T Toyo Services, Triangle Recycling, Wisdom and Associates, and Wood Heat Fire Stone, AK GEO Energy and Lime Solar.
A big thank you to the Soldotna High School track team and the Homer High School volleyball team who helped serve food at the fairs.
In addition, I would like to acknowledge the administration and staff at the Kenai Middle School and West Homer Elementary. They were incredibly accommodating and their assistance was invaluable.
Homer Electric is committed to providing our members with as much information as possible to manage their energy use. We already are looking forward to our 2013 Energy and Conservation Fairs and if you have any suggestions on how to improve our fairs, we would love to hear from you.
