Another successful Nutcracker Faire

ushers in Homer’s holiday season

Homer Council on the Arts ushered in 2016 holiday season with another tremendous Nutcracker Faire. We heard so many compliments from both vendors and attendees that the Faire was one of the best experiences in decades.

As HCOA’s board and staff, we want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make it happen. We extend a huge shout out to our Kenai Peninsula artists for your effort and hours of preparation that provide a variety of wares and an abundance of creativity.

With more than 30 local volunteers staffing the loading and unloading, taping the gym and commons, the HCOA food booth and information table, and numerous other jobs, the event ran like a well-oiled machine.

It is events like this that demonstrate the central importance of the arts in our community. This event is one way HCOA supports our local artists, and one that we look forward to producing year after year. Without exception, we thank the members of our greater community for supporting local artists; we appreciate your commitment and enthusiasm.

Happy holidays to all,

Peggy Paver, executive director

Fundraiser shows Homer’s support

for World Tour snowboarder

In regard to the fundraiser that was held at Alice’s on Nov. 12 to cover my cost of competing this winter on the Freeride World Tour, I want express my extreme gratitude to the community of Homer for the tremendous support I’ve gathered over the past few weeks. Homer businesses really stepped up and showed great support through donating an incredible amount of valuable items. Community members dove head first into games and fierce bidding wars to make this project a home-run success.

I am so thankful to be a part of a community, unified with such endless support, and fueled by pure passion. I feel as though you are all my family, and I would love to take you with me. Unfortunately, I am only allowed 50 pounds of baggage and my backpack is only so big.

I can’t say it enough, thank you Homer.

A special shout out to Sasquatch Alaska. We missed the opportunity to thank them on our event brochure, rest assured they deserve proper gratitude for the ongoing support going into the Freeride World Tour this season.
