Thanks to everyone who attended our 30th annual quilt show last weekend. We had great attendance and lots of appreciation for our works of art.
Again this year we participated in the Shorebird Challenge, an opportunity to create wallhangings depicting birds around Kachemak Bay. Janet Bacher’s “Ocean Tides” was voted first place. Patrice Krant’s “Owl” was voted second place in the challenge. “Shorebirds” by Bette Seaman took third place.
Voting by attendees at the quilt show determined all our awards. The Best of Show award winner was Patrice Krant’s wallhanging, “Eagle.”
Large bed quilt winners were first place, Charlene Ditton’s “Alaska’s Wild Heart”; second place, Pat Melone’s “Snowflakes”; and third place, Alice Krivitsky’s log cabin center with flying geese in the outer border, “Jake’s Quilt.”
Attendee votes for small quilts (bed, crib, lap) selected first place Enid Keyes’ brown and pink embroidered lap quilt; second place, Linda Wagner’s “Cats at Night”; and third place, Dana Lewis’ “Echoes of Lake Clark.”
Wall art votes selected as first place Charlene Ditton’s “Polar Bear.” Charlene Ditton also received the second place ribbon for her paper pieced “Fireweed” wallhanging. The third place award went to Kathy Pankratz for her paper pieced “Cattails” wallhanging.
In the “Other” category, which included wearable art, table runners or anything that was not a bed quilt or a wallhanging, viewer votes awarded first place to the embroidered blue round table topper by Enid Keyes. Second place went to Alice Krivitsky for her “Dregs,” which was made from leftovers from her Judy Niemeyer bed runner. Third place was also awarded to Enid Keyes for her white embroidered window cover.
Special thanks again this year to Ulmer’s for accommodating quilt registration at the store and to Merry Gregg for her continued support of quilters and our quilt show.
