Fire Company Reports

Alaska Division of Forestry

April 1-Aug. 31

Permits for open burning are required by the Alaska Division of Forestry or local departments from April 1 to Aug. 31. Permits are subject to suspensions and closures and are required for burning woody debris, brush, grass and slash. Burns that started before April 1 but continue after that require a permit. Campfires and small warming fires to do not require a permit. Approved burn barrels do not require burn permits but are subject to burning closures.

Open burn piles must be surrounded by a nonburnable surface of at least 15 feet. Do not leave piles unattended and keep sufficient tools and water on hard to control the fire. Make sure that piles and ash pits are put out by mixing them up. For more information on burn permits, visit forestry.alaska.gov/burn.
