In honor of the late Tommie CarlinSchauer, his family holds a Tribute to Coach Tommie with soccer games from 1-4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Homer Middle School soccer field. Born April 21, 1957, CarlinSchauer, 57, died Dec. 18, 2014, in Green Bay, Wisc., after a brief battle with cancer.

He had lived with his sister, Linda Rourke, for six years in Homer, and from 2008 to 2013 worked summers as Soccer Association of Homer coach and administrator. He also coached Homer Middle School and Homer High School soccer teams and worked for Community Mental Health and as the Kevin Bell Ice Arena manager.

“‘Coach Tommie,’ as most knew him, spent most of his life sharing his love and passion with thousands of youth and adults,” said Rourke. “Homer became his second home, where he became close friends with so many people.”

Tom Kizzia, a SAH board member when CarlinSchauer was first hired, noted his enthusiasm for coaching younger players in the Little Feet program for ages 4-5.

“He worked long hours for little pay, but his energy and enthusiasm were so great that all you had to do was nudge him and he took off,” Kizzia said.

In the tribute, teams will play 20-minute games to honor CarlinSchauer. Players can sign up as a team or play in a pickup game. Refreshments will be served.
