Gulf Watch Alaska presents a report on recent activities, with a lecture by Dan Olsen, a video by John Moranin from Prince William Sound, a video about herring monitoring, a slide show of Katmai near-shore research, a brief talk from Axiom Research, an overview of Gulf Watch Alaska and a short story by Donna Aderhold. There will be a square and contra dance starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at West Homer Elementary School. Jim Haack will call to music by Jake Legs. Please bring clean, soft-soled shoes to dance in. Beginners are welcome. Admission is $7 for adults; kids under 16 get in free.

The Homer Foundation holds its annual meeting starting with a meet-and-greet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bunnell Street Arts Center. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and includes the annual report, “Celebrating 25 Years of Community Philanthropy,” board member appointments, a report on investments and grants, the People’s Choice Awards, and a remembrance of Mary Epperson. The Christian Science Society holds a Thanksgiving service at 10 a.m. Nov. 24 at its reading room, 3774 Bartlett Street. The service includes hymns, prayer and readings from the King James Bible and passages from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Time will be set aside for sharing testimonies and expressions of gratitude.

The Kachemak Ski Club holds its annual meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 at Fat Olives Restaurant. Everyone is welcome.

The Anchor Point Fire & Emergency Service Area Board seeks applications from those who are interested in appointment to the service area board. Any qualified voter who has resided within the service area for 180 days may apply for appointment to Seat C.

Anchor Point Senior Citizens

The Anchor Point Senior Center on Milo Fritz Road is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-noon Friday. The center serves Thursday night dinners starting at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Bingo is at 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. on Friday nights. The Helping Hands Thrift Store is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Exercise sessions are at 10 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Friendship Center

Friendship Center Adult Day Services is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday with extended hours for special situations. Programs are offered daily, including story time, crafts and musical performances. Call 235-4556.

Homer Senior Citizens

Homer Senior Citizens lunch is open to seniors and guests and is served noon-1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The lunch menu for this week is: today, baked ham with scalloped potatoes; Friday, blackened catfish; Monday, spaghetti and meatballs; Tuesday, chicken picatta; Wednesday, sweet and sour pork; next Thursday, closed for Thanksgiving.

Strong Women classes are 1:30-2:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Homer Senior Center. The cost is $3 for members and $6 for nonmembers per class.

Zumba Gold classes with Maria are 11 a.m.-noon Tuesdays and 1:30-2:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Homer Senior Center. The cost per class is $4 for members, $6 for nonmembers.

“Inspired by Diaries” features art works by different artists inspired by diaries to create art. It is on display through Dec. 30.

South Peninsula Hospital

Dr. Ross Tanner, specialist at South Peninsula Hospital and founder of the Diabetes and Lipid Clinic of Alaska, presents a free forum, “Know Your Numbers,” at 6:30 p.m. today at the Kachemak Bay Campus. The forum focuses on what your blood test results mean for your health. Participants are invited to bring their health fair lab results to the event to get their questions answered. Tanner is a board-certified lipidologist trained to treat cholesterol problems in order to prevent heart attacks and stroke.
