The Mariner baseball team dropped two games in regional play in Wasilla to close out the 2015 season.

In game 1, the Mariners fell to Palmer 16-9. Kyle Johnson started on the mound with Owen Delehanty pitching the last several innings in relief. 

The Palmer club had the bats going early, picking up five hits and four runs in the first and then six runs in the third to claim a commanding early lead.  

Homer picked up two runs in the third, one in the fourth, and four in the fifth, but Palmer came up with three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to keep the game out of reach. 

Picking up hits for Homer were Owen Delehanty, Wylie Donich, Greg Smith, Michael Swoboda and Kyle Johnson.

The Mariners, now facing elimination with another loss, were disappointed to lose to a scrappy Kenai team in game two, falling 10-7.

Homer had defeated Kenai rather handily twice during conference play but the Kardinals had other ideas in this game.  

Wylie Donich started on the mound and pitched four innings before being relieved by Kyle Johnson.  Kenai came through in the clutch, scoring 10 runs while the Mariners struggled offensively, scoring only two runs in the first six innings.  

Homer fell short in their comeback attempt late in the game to lose the game and close out the season. 

Michael Swoboda had three RBI with a pair of base hits and Wylie Donich picked up two hits as well. 

This closed out the high school careers for nine seniors: Owen Delehanty, JJ Sonnen, Wylie Donich, Patrick Rainwater, Collin McCampbell, Evan Boyer, Sheldon Hutt, Paul Trowbridge and Brandon Beachy.  

Meanwhile, returning players with extensive varsity experience including Michael Swoboda, Kyle Johnson, and Greg Smith stand ready to lead the 2016 Mariners next season.
