School is out and summer fun begins with the HomerARTS Camp the first two weeks of June. The first week, June 1-5, will feature Bluegrass Camp for Kids at Homer Middle School. The second week, June 8-12, will feature Andrew Vait’s Rock/Pop Camp with Homer Grown Animal Eyes Haven Multz, Colin McCarthy and Tyler Langham.
There will be additional art offerings to fill the whole day if music is not the camper’s primary interest. Kara Clemens will teach dance, Casey Parrett will offer Reader’s Theatre, Midori Gleason will teach Creative Writing. Drum Alive ensures an energetic class with Tina Moore and Keri Syth, Mosaics will be offered by Josh Nordstrom and Marie Alexson will connect art and nature with a creative visual art project. Campers can come for the full day or half a day in the morning or afternoon.
Camp is made possible only with community support. The Homer Foundations Youth Advisory Committee generously awarded funding from YAC’s generous donors and the Sheldon Youth to Youth Fund. The Homer Foundation also offered support from the JEMCO Fund and the Music Education Fund in memory of Rhenda Horn. American Seafood offered support and True North Adventure returns as an annual donor to the HCOA youth programs. HCOA relies on this support to not only cover the expenses of camp but to offer discounts to ensure that no child is refused participation.
Thank you to all those who support our youth in the arts, not only financially but with your audience participation. The public is welcome to attend the camp concerts on June 5 and June 12 at 3:30 p.m. at West Homer Elementary, as well as staff concerts at HCOA on June 4 and 1 at 7 p.m. For more information go to HomeART.org or call Gail at 235-4288.
