Melisse Reichman stands by her sculpture, “A Soulful Eye” installed at the End of the Road Park on the Homer Spit. Reichman unveiled her art on Sept. 24. The sculpture was done as part of the city’s 1-percent for art program.
“It depicts the cherished and memorable experience I have heard tell of, when someone looks over the side of a boat to peer directly into the eye of a (humpback) whale while it rolls over to look above the water’s surface,” she said.
Reichman also did the sculptures installed at the city bathrooms on West Pioneer Avenue near Bartlett Street. Like those sculptures, “A Soulful Eye” is constructed out of fortified cement over carved foam.
