Sept. 16

Alaska State Troopers, Central Peninsula EMS and Life Flight Alaska at 2:14 p.m. responded to approximately milepost 143 of the Sterling Highway for a vehicle- to-vehicle collision with injuries.

Investigation revealed a Toyota Camray driven by a Homer man was traveling northbound, passed two vehicles also traveling northbound and failed to observe a 1997 Chevrolet utility van turning left into a private driveway. The Toyota struck the van and both vehicles were forced into the ditch.

A passenger in the Toyota was injured and transported by Life Flight to Anchorage. The drivers and another passenger were reported OK. Everyone was wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Sept. 13  

Alaska State Troopers in Anchor Point were notified that on approximately July 22 a dog was beaten with a baseball bat at a residence on Ruth Way in Homer. It was reported the dog was shot and killed following the severe beating. Troopers responded to the residence to investigate the complaint and contacted a 22-year-old man. Troopers obtained evidence corroborating the account. The man attempted to fight with the troopers.

While on the property, Troopers learned the man had an illegal marijuana grow operation on the property in addition to a large cache of firearms. Troopers also learned that two children resided in the home and were frequently under Chapman’s care at the residence.

Troopers from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation Statewide Drug Task Force assisted the troopers already at the scene. The man was arrested on cruelty to animal charges and charges for endangering the welfare of a minor, weapons charges, drug charges and disorderly conduct. Investigation continues.
