July 14

Alaska State Troopers went to an all-terrain vehicle rollover on Glacier View Road in Homer. Troopers said a juvenile driving the ATV west lost control and went into a ditch, causing it to roll and pin the driver under it. Kachemak Emergency Services responded and took the driver and a passenger to South Peninsula Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

July 15

Troopers at 12:48 p.m. received a report that family of a 33-year-old Homer man found him dead at his home. Medics pronounced the man dead. Troopers contacted the State Medical Examiner who asked that the man be transported to Anchorage. Troopers said no foul play was suspected.

Troopers at 1:20 p.m. went to a car crash near Mile 130.5 Sterling Highway at a construction zone near Ninilchik. Troopers said a 23-year-old Anchorage man failed to stop for flaggers, hitting the rear of a pickup driven by a51-year-old Soldotna man. Ninilchik Emergency Medical Services took the Anchorage man to South Peninsula Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released. Troopers arrested the Anchorage man for violating conditions of probation and cited him for not taking due care to avoid a collision.

Troopers at 7:30 p.m. went to a car crash near Mile 18 North Fork Road. Troopers said a 22-year-old Anchor Point woman fell asleep while driving her car. The car left the road and burst into flames. Anchor Point Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the woman and her passenger to South Peninsula Hospital, where they were treated and released for minor injuries. Both wore seatbelts.

July 18

Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited a 62-year-old Homer and Hawaii man for unlawfully operating a commercial drift gillnet from a grounded vessel. Troopers said the man deployed a gillnet from his amphibious vehicle-vessel when it was grounded.

July 19

Troopers at 7:40 p.m. went to a report of an assault in progress in Ninilchik. Troopers said a 39-year-old Ninilchik woman call 911 to report her 16-year-old son assaulted her and his 14-year-old brother. Troopers said the 16-year-old boy became unruly when asked to stop playing video games. Troopers arrested the boy on charges of second-degree assault, third-degree assault, two counts of fourth-degree assault, and third-degree criminal mischief. He was transported to the Division of Juvenile Justice in Kenai.

July 20

Wildlife troopers cited a 53-year-old Homer man for commercial fishing during a closed period. Troopers said he operated commercial fishing gear before the 6 a.m. opening time in the July 20 Eastern District commercial seine opener in Port Valdez

July 23

Troopers at 8:44 a.m. went to a car crash at the intersection of the North Fork Road and Gillham Court in Anchor Point. Troopers said a 68-year-old Homer man turning left in a Chevrolet Silverado put on his turn signal and slowed down. A 67-year-old Nikolaevsk man driving behind him tried to pass and the cars collided. All occupants wore seatbelts and were uninjured. Damage to both cars was estimated at more than $10,000. Troopers cited the Nikolaevsk man for failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision.

July 25

Troopers at noon went to a multiple-car crash in Anchor Point at the intersection of the Sterling Highway and Ester Avenue. Troopers said a 55-year-old Soldotna woman driving a Toyota Sequoia south stopped behind another car turning left. A 37-year-old New York man driving a Ford Expedition also stopped behind the Soldotna woman. A 37-year-old Minnesota man driving a Chevrolet Cruze collided with the Expedition, causing it to hit the Toyota. All occupants wore seat belts. A passenger in the Cruze had minor injuries and was treated and released by Anchor Point Emergency Medical Services. Total damage was estimated at $15,000. The Minnesota man was cited for failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision.

Troopers at 9:12 p.m. went to Mile 127 Sterling Highway in Ninilchik for a car rollover. Ninilchik EMS also responded. Troopers said a 32-year-old Anchorage man driving a Ford took his eyes off the road momentarily, causing his car to drift out of its lane.  The car went into the ditch and rolled onto its side. Two passengers in the Ford were taken to Central Peninsula Hospital for treatment. The Anchorage man said he was not injured. All parties wore seatbelts.

July 26

Troopers at 8:22 p.m. went to a car crash with injuries at the intersection of the North Fork Road and the Sterling Highway in Anchor Point. Troopers said a 63-year-old Anchor Point man driving a utility truck lost its brakes and rolled. Anchor Point EMS responded. A passenger, also a 63-year-old Anchor Point man, was taken to South Peninsula Hospital for minor injuries. Troopers said the driver had misused license plates and also did not have a commercial driver’s license. He was issued summonses for misuse of plates and driving a commercial vehicle without a license.
