All it takes is a little snow and skiers’ minds turn toward skiing, of course. The Kachemak Nordic Ski Club is all set for winter with a full calendar of events recently updated on the club’s website.

“The thing I would stress would be the annual meeting,” said club secretary Mike Byerly.

The annual meeting, a dinner and auction will be held at the Homer Elks Lodge on Nov. 9-10.

The Homer Women’s Nordic, a group of women with a fitness, fun and Nordic skiing focus, are active from October through March, offering opportunities to race, volunteer and coach. Anyone is welcome; cost for the season is $100. Check out HWN on Facebook. 

The annual winter gear and ski swap, sponsored by Homer Community Recreation, will be held in the Homer High School commons from 6:30-9 p.m. Nov. 14. Junior Nordic gear will be available to rent.

New or wannabe adult skiers can take advantage of a beginner classic clinic Dec. 8, 15 and 22 and a beginner skate clinic Dec. 29, Jan 5 and 12. 

Also coming up is the popular Ski Your Age In Kilometers event on Dec. 26, with the location still to be determined. It benefits the Homer High School Boosters.

The club’s busy season includes activities through March.

The Kachemak Nordic Ski Club’s board of directors meets the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Members are welcome. Check the website to confirm meting dates and locations.

There are no fees for general recreational skiing on the club’s trails.  Events have participation fees.

A basic club membership is $25, with a super-user membership of $50 and a patron membership of $150. Families can join at the $50, $100, $300 or more levels. Businesses can join by making in-kind or cash donations.
