International speaker to lead workshops in Homer on Feb. 7

An international business speaker with a background of professional success in broadcasting and business association management will be in Homer on Feb. 7

Patrick H. McGaughey will lead a board orientation and “Organizational Strategic and Tactical Planning” session with the Homer Chamber of Commerce board of directors. He also will offer two additional sessions open to all nonprofits in the area. The first session will run from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and is open only to the executives of nonprofits. The second will run from 4 to 6 p.m. and will be a general board orientation and question-and-answer session. Local nonprofits will pay a $100 fee for this session, but that allows all members of their board and staff to attend.

“We just couldn’t bring someone this knowledgeable about how non-profit associations are run from the ground up without sharing it with the community,” said Monte Davis, executive director of the Homer chamber. “Initially I wasn’t going to charge for any of it and just offer it to the community, but several directors suggested that their board would be more likely to attend if they felt money had been spent for them to attend.”

For more information, contact Davis or Debbie Speakman at the Homer chamber at 235-7740.

McGaughey’s “professional experience combined with a constant examination of historical, current and future trends is the foundation for his presentations on business leadership, management, marketing, sales and personal performance,” according to his official biography.

In his role as a business speaker and consultant, McGaughey has been a regular faculty member for the United States Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management at five major universities since 2000. He also is recognized as one of the top five “Enter-Trainers” in the United States “for his ability to help business audiences laugh a little and learn a lot, making his presentations highly informative and a great deal of fun,” says his website.

McGaughey and his wife, Gail, live in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where they have two grown children and five grandchildren.
