A new natural health business will celebrate its Homer opening Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Forget Me Not Alternative Healing includes a small storefront with organic and natural herbal remedies and supplements, an office with a natural health-care practitioner — Aleesha Franklin — and a space to hold lectures, seminars and cooking classes.
The business is located at 1121 Sea Breeze Court.
Franklin and her husband, Camarron, are the business owners.
During Saturday’s grand opening there will be give-aways, discounted prices and an opportunity to see what Forget Me Not Alternative Healing is all about, said Franklin.
At noon and 4 p.m. there will be time to “meet the practitioner.” Franklin will discuss her background and offer more information about the treatments and therapies she will offer.
Franklin, who originally came to Alaska to study marine biology, began exploring natural remedies because her three children had health challenges for which Western medicine provided no answers.
About six years ago, she came across the Nordblom American Institute of Footzonology in Montana. She eventually became an instructor of the practice, which is similar to reflexology, she said.
The practice “is the study and science of the signal system in the feet,” according to the institute’s web site. Analyzing signals from the feet, face and back, practitioners are able to help clients start the healing process.
Franklin, who also is taking classes through the Trinity School of Natural Health to get her naturopathic doctor degree, said her goal as a natural health practitioner is to help people learn and understand things that may be affecting their health so they can make choices to improve their health.
The foundational belief for Forget Me Not Alternative Healing is “everyone deserves to be healthy and happy.”
Franklin has a particular soft spot for parents who have sick children, struggling to find ways to improve their health.
“When given the right information, things change,” she said.
Franklin has had a natural health practice in Anchorage for the past couple of years. She and her family recently returned to Homer for a lifestyle change.
“We wanted to have more time as a family and do this together,” she said.
Many of the products at Forget Me Not Healing are Franklin’s own line. She makes fermented herbal probiotics and is currently working on several blends.
