The Chugiak Mustangs doled out two shutout games to the Homer Mariners on the night of Friday, Dec. 9 and the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 10. The teams faced off in Homer at Kevin Bell Arena. The Mariners fell to 5-8 overall with the losses.
Saturday’s game ended with a 6-0 Chugiak victory. Chugiak’s scoring increased with each period, gaining one goal in the first period, two in the second, and three in the third. Zachary Plucinski scored twice and Josh Boneta, Andrew Beckett, Daniel Casey and Tyler Huffer each scored once for Chugiak.
On Friday, the Mustangs hit Homer with an 8-0 score, taking control in the first period by scoring three goals, then added two in the second and three more in the third. Beckett and John Hammer each scored twice while Plucinski, Casey, Symmes, and Krajnik each scored once for Chugiak.
Cross-country skiing
The Mariner cross-country ski team attended the Lynx Loppet at Kincaid. The Loppet saw more snow than they have had there in four years, said assistant cross-country ski coach Alison O’Hara. The Mariners competed against all the big Anchorage teams as well as teams statewide. Sophomore Katie Davis and Freshman Autumn Daigle put their all into races on both days, O’Hara said.
“We have high hopes for them in the future with more training and work on technique,” O’Hara said. “We have four very strong skiers, and a few more up and coming, on the boys team and look forward to seeing if they can win the team times in boroughs in February.”
