Yeah, that’s about it. Even though we’re in the shortest month of the year, February sure has dragged on, hasn’t it? Your mileage may vary, so if you spent the last three weeks in Hawaii, time sure flew, eh? Here at Latitude 59 degrees and some change, the days … have … just … gone … on … and … on.
Fear not, Betsteroids. If you can just get through today and Friday, February will be over. That’s less than 48 hours. You can do it. March will be here on Saturday, and barring any blizzards or anything, we should get through next month just peachy. Make it through March, April is a cinch. Make it through April, and dang, it’s almost summer. Steady as she goes. We can do it.

BEST TOUGH AS NAILS BET: Alaska athletes don’t come any more awesome than Lance Mackey, four-time winner of the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest, and the only sled dog driver to do win both in the same year. On top of that, he beat back cancer, but the treatment cost him his teeth. Help him out with a fundraiser starting at 3 p.m. Friday at the Down East Saloon with a potluck and auction. Sabe Flores performs. The auction starts at 7 p.m.
BEST I KNOW I KNOW BET: Get your nerd genius on for Trivia Night, a fundraiser for Homer Animal Friends, at 6 p.m. Friday at the Homer Elks Lodge. Join a team for $20 or watch for $10. Food is provided, and there will be a silent auction and raffle.
BEST HELPING HAND BET: Someday everyone will have platinum health insurance and we’ll just pass the hat to pay for a modest out-of-pocket charge. Meanwhile, well, we help out our friends, like Suzi Luzadder and Addie Klemke. Suzi’s husband John died recently of cancer, and she has some bills to pay off, while Addie Klemke is dealing with cancer. Their fundraiser is at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Homer Elks Lodge. A Mexican feed is $15, and the event includes auctions, a 50/50 raffle and cash donations.
