Homer Electric Association will provide  public tours of its new Nikiski Combined Cycle Conversion Project from 1-4:30 p.m. May 1.
 The tours will be approximately 30-minutes long and provide the public with an opportunity to get an up-close look at the new power generation facility. The plant is the cornerstone of HEA’s Independent Light program and will provide up to 80 megawatts of power when it comes on line later this year.
Tour participants will park in the lot in front of the former Agrium facility at approximately Mile 21 on the Kenai Spur Highway. A shuttle bus will then take them over to the nearby generation plant.
The project is an active construction site and is not currently handicapped accessible. All tour participants must be at least 18 years old and have proper boots and outdoor gear in order to go on the tour.
May 1 also is the date of HEA’s annual meeting. This year the meeting is at Kenai Central High School. Registration for the meeting will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The business meeting will start at 6 p.m. Results of the board of directors election will be announced.
HEA members were mailed ballots on April 1. Completed mail-in ballots must be received by April 30 in order to be valid. There also will be an opportunity to vote at the annual meeting. A photo ID is required if voting at the meeting.  There will be prizes, give-aways and informational booths.
