Upcoming events:

Soccer: The boys’ soccer team will play Soldotna High School at 6 p.m. in Homer on Tuesday, April 10. The girls’ team will play at 4 p.m. that same day.

Track and Field: This first track and field meet of the season will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 20 at Anchorage Christian School. This will be followed up by the Homer Invitational at home starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21.

In review:

Wrestling: The following is a recap of how the Anchor King Wrestlers did at a tournament in Anchorage over the weekend from Anchor Kings President Conrad Woodhead:

“Eleven Anchor Kings Wrestlers headed north this past weekend to Anchorage to participate in the Anchorage Freestyle Wrestling Club Tournament, producing three champions and two third-place finishers. Alex Shea found his way to the top of the podium for the first time in his young wrestling career, defeating five wrestlers. Shea’s toughest match in the Intermediate 69-71 pound bracket came against Warren Smallwood of the Anchorage Youth Wrestling Academy. Shea defeated Smallwood 10-8.

“Other crowned tournament champions were Wayne Newman and Kyle Wells, both in the Junior Division. In the 130-141 pound bracket, Newman easily marched his way through his bracket, until facing Gideon Hutchison from the Soldotna Whalers Wrestlers. Newman won a close one in a 10-9 decision. He went on to beat Jayden Christiansen from the Mat-Su Matmen Wrestling Club (TF 12-1) for first place. Wells dominated his

220-252 pound bracket, easily defeating all four of the wrestlers he met, including one by pin, and two technical falls.

“In the intermediate 75-76 pound bracket, Alysha Nyvall found her way back to the podium with third place, along with CJ Burns at the Novice 96-101 pound bracket.

“The Anchor Kings head to the Valley next weekend to compete at the Tri-Valley Wrestling Club Tournament at Colony High School.”

The following is a recap of how the Popeye Wrestling Club did at the same Anchorage tourney from Storm Cavasos:

“(The) Popeye Wrestling Club participated in the Anchorage Freestyle Wrestling Club Tournament this last weekend. We had a good group of wrestlers participate.

“Timothy Cissney lost his first match but came back to pin his next two opponents to finish second. Two lady Popeyes battled their way to the finals: Hayden Kumfer took second and Storey Cook picked up third place.

“Kamdyn Doughty fought well against two (Mat-Su Matmen Wrestling Club) wrestlers but came up a little short. Tristen Cook had a tough bracket as well but still managed to place third in the finals. Seth Inama dominated his bracket picking up two pins and an technical fall on his way to first place.

“All wrestlers who competed this weekend did great: Burke Mellen, Kanin Kumfer, Hayden Kumfer, Allen White, Beck Mellen, Tim Cissney, Hayden Kumfer, Storey Cook, Jocelyn White, Brooks Mellen, Alex Hicks, Kamdyn Doughty, Seth Inama and Tristen Cook.”
