Volleyball: The C-Team, junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams will play against Seward at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Alice Witte Gymnasium in Homer. All three teams will also play against Anchorage Christian School at 11 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. also at home.
Football: The varsity Homer Mariners football team will play against the Head of the Bay Cougars, made up of Voznesenka, Kachemak-Selo and Razdolna, at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Homer High School.
Cross-Country: The Homer cross-country teams will compete in the State Championships at Bartlett High School in Anchorage on Saturday, Sept. 30.
Swim/Dive: The team will compete in Seward at the Seward Invite starting at 10 a.m.
Volleyball: The Homer Mariners varsity volleyball team came out on top at the beginning of several games over the last week, but could not keep up the momentum. They started by going 3-0 over Joe Redington Jr/Sr High School on Thursday, Sept. 21, winning 25-14, 25-10 and 25-18. The team then fell to Houston on Friday, Sept. 22. Houston beat the Mariners 3-0, winning the sets 25-18, 25-17 and 25-16. On Saturday, Sept. 23, against Anchorage Christian High School, Homer also lost 0-3, losing each set 15-25, 14-25 and 17-25. By the end of the weekend the Mariners fell to 2-4 in the Southcentral Conference.
Football: The Homer varsity football team defeated the players of Joe Redington Jr/Sr High School 55-0 during an away game on Friday, Sept. 22, taking the team to 3-0 in the Division III Peninsula Conference, which clinches the conference title. Nikiski High School (at 2-1) is the only team that could tie with the Mariners by the end of the regular season, but Homer owns the tiebreaker due to their earlier defeat of Nikiski this season.
The Head of the Bay Cougars fell to the players of Seward High School 12-0 in an away game also on Friday, Sept. 22. This takes the Cougars to 0-3 in conference play and 1-5 overall.
Cross-Country: The Homer girls cross-country team took the Division II title at the Region III Championships on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Government Peak Recreation Area near Palmer, scoring 41 points. Sophomore Autumn Daigle, senior Alex Moseley and freshman Brook Miller finished the 5,000 meter race as a pack in third, fourth and fifth place respectively. The boys team took second out of the Division II teams with 47 points. Honer’s Jacob Davis, a senior, took third overall with a time of 17 minutes, 56.75 seconds.

Swim/Dive: The Homer boys and girls traveled to Soldotna High School on Friday, Sept. 22 to compete in the SoHi Pentathlon. Each participant in a pentathlon swims the 100-yard individual medley, 50-yard butterfly, 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle. The five times from those races are added together to find the winner. Freshman Madison Story took first place overall for the girls with a time of 2 minutes, 59.66 seconds. The Homer girls team came in fourth with 138 points, and the boys team took sixth place with 49.5 points. Girls team scores: 1. Kodiak, 188; 2. Soldotna, 168; 3. Colony, 146; 4. Homer, 138; 5.
