Homer Winter Carnival

The Galena girls and Sitka boys clinched championships Saturday at the round-robin Homer Winter Carnival.

The Sitka boys wrapped up the title with a 61-43 victory over Galena on Saturday.

Steve Schmitt led a balanced Sitka attack with 12 points, while CJ Taccad had 11. For Galena, Eric Jones had 23.

On the girls side, Galena completed its run through the tournament with a 57-35 victory over North Pole. Pearle Green had 19 points for Galena, while Julia Riddle had 17 points. For North Pole, Hayli Blankenship had 13 points.

Homer boys 61, Nikiski 51, OT

The Mariners finished off their home weekend tournament with an overtime win over Nikiski on Saturday. Jordan Beachy fueled Homer with 14 points, while Hunter Edens chipped in 13, Charles Rohr had 12 and Koby Etzwiler had 11.

Homer led 28-20 at the half, but the Bulldogs stormed back by outscoring their opponents 12-4 in the third quarter to tie things up at 42 apiece.

In overtime, Homer won by outscoring Nikiski 13-3. Etzwiler hit two buckets and Beachy hit a big triple.

Kodiak girls 32, Homer 11

The Kodiak girls finished off the tournament with a 32-11 victory over Homer.

Zennia Chia paced the Bears with 11 points, while Uliana Reutov had four to pace Homer.

The most valuable players at the tournament were Galena’s Julia Riddle and Sitka’s Morjo Vidad.

The girls all-tournament team was Kodiak’s Zennia Chia and Honey Rose Macatuno, Galena’s Elizabeth Green, North Pole’s Hayli Blankenship and Homer’s Uliana Reutov. Riddle won the free-throw contest, Green was the 3-point champ and Chia was the bump winner.

The boys all-tournament team was Nikiski’s Jace Kornstad and Ian Johnson, Homer’s Koby Etzwiler, Galena’s Eric Jones and Sitka’s Jesse Langtiegne. Kornstad was the free-throw champ, Etzwiler won the 3-point contest and Nikiski’s Braden Ellis was the bump winner.

Ninilchik Tournament

The Ninilchik girls and boys won tournament titles on Saturday. The boys went 3-0 to win the tourney, while the Wolverines girls finished at 2-1 with the Soldotna JV and Nikiski JV, but won the title on point differential.

The Soldotna girls JV forced a tiebreaker with a 34-29 victory over Ninilchik on Saturday. Denali Wurst lead the Stars with 11 points.

DeeAnn White had 12 points for Ninilchik, while Olivia Delgado added 10.

On the boys side, Ninilchik clinched its perfect run through the tournament with a 74-55 victory over Minto on Saturday.

Austin White led the way with 25 points, while Dalton Geppert had 20, Tyler Presley had 15 and JD Mumey added 10.

The other Saturday boys game saw the Ninilchik Timberwolves defeat Kalskag 77-38. Kalskag was 0-3 at the tourney.

Dalton Geppert of Ninilchik was the boys MVP, while the all-tournament team was Deven Woods of Minto, Austin White of Ninilchik, Basil Nook of Kalskag, Tristan Titus of Minto, Tyler Presley of Ninilchik, Terrell Mute of Kalskag, Deion Frank of Minto, Matt Bartolowits of Ninilchik and Harvey Levi of Kalskag.

The girls MVP was DeeAnn White of Ninilchik. The all-tournament team was Shelly Johnson of Ninilchik, Shaylene Egoak of Akiak, America Jeffries of Nikiski, Olivia Delgado of Ninilchik, Denali Wurst of SoHi, Joanna Cornelius of SoHi, Miranda Demientieff of Akiak and Kianna Holland of SoHi.
