New Year's Eve revelers looking for entertainment from the sedate to the silly have plenty of choices at local clubs. Always wanted to celebrate the new year in Times Square? You can when Alice's Champagne Palace recreates it, complete with falling mirrored ball, at its New York Masquerade Ball. Put on tails and tux, or at least what passes for Homer formal, at Land's End Resort. From Old Town to East End Road to the Spit, from upscale bars to classic bars, there's lots to choose from — but hey, keep it safe with designated drivers or call a cab.

On New Year's Eve, Alice's re-creates Times Square in New York City with a masquerade ball and at midnight a 3-foot lighted ball that drops 15 feet to mark the new year. A free champagne toast is at midnight A.J.'s Old Town Steakhouse & Tavern 120 W. Bunnell Ave. 9 Spine 9 p.m., New Year's Eve Formerly Duggan's Waterfront Pub, A.J's Old Town Steakhouse & Tavern celebrates its first year with new owner Adrienne Sweeney in the remodeled, but always lively, Old Town pub. Champagne specials are offered. Kharacter's 197 E. Pioneer Ave. Mo-Mo Blues 10 p.m., New Year's Eve The friendly, intimate bar on Pioneer Avenue features Mo-Mo Blues shakin' up the house.
