Homer was not in the tournament. Last year, Homer was in this tournament, and we applied and received the sanction from the governing body of high school sports in Alaska, ASAA to host this tournament. Then, in its infinite wisdom, ASAA moved us to the winter season of wrestling, so Homer couldn't wrestle in this tournament but still was hosting it.
There could have been some sour grapes, but sour grapes are not something the community of Homer has ever been in the business of producing. Indeed, more than 100 volunteers and sponsors put together the best state tournament that anyone in the wrestling community of the state could remember. It was a class act.
No one person can take credit for the great success of the tournament. It was the teamwork of everyone. Obviously, there were so many involved that it would be impossible for me to name them, and everyone shares in the success.
So may I say that I, as tournament director, and the staff and administration of Homer High School, profoundly thank each and every one of those who aided in making this tournament and wrestling in general a great success in Homer.
Steven A. Wolfe, tournament director
