Power outage continues on south side of Kachemak Bay

A power outage that began at 6:10 a.m. Monday continues from Seldovia to McKeon Flats, according to the Homer Electric Association.

Following the morning outage, the Gerry Willard Generation Plant in Seldovia was brought online to provide power to Nanwalek, Port Graham and part of Seldovia. The area from the generation plan and along Jakolof Bay Road to McKeon Flats was without power.

"The area received heavy snow last night and the cause of the outage is likely a tree on the power line," said Joe Gallagher, HEA public relations coordinator, estimating more than three feet of snow had fallen on the south side of the bay.

As of 3 p.m. Monday, HEA crews had been unable to patrol the line due to weather conditions and were not expected to make repairs today.

"The crew hopes to be able to fly the line on Tuesday morning, weather permitting," said Gallagher.

HEA urged the public to stay away from down power lines. Lines are extremely dangerous. Getting too close to a line can cause serious injury or death.
