Members of Toni Parlow's eighth-grade class at Homer Middle School, above, left to right, Matt Kinney, Joel Olson and Kevin Steiner, display food collected during the school's efforts to aid the Share the Spirit Food Drive. The class collected the most food and earned a breakfast cooked by Principal Glen Szymoniak.

Students were honored for achievements in the Cyber Surfari national competition, school spelling bee, the Mind of Mazes competition, the word power challenge, basketball and swimming.

The girls basketball team went on to win the Kenai Peninsula Borough tournament on Saturday. (See Sports.)
