Cracker returning

The band Cracker returns to Alice's Champagne Palace for a 9 p.m. performance Saturday. The gig is sponsored by KBBI and Downward Dog Productions, and tickets are $27 general admission, $25 for KBBI members. Tickets are on sale at the Homer Bookstore, Solstice Music, KBBI and Alice's.

Yaki to perform

Homer's own Matt Yaki, as well as others, will perform during an open house at the Friendship Terrace Assisted Living on Friday from 6-8 p.m. The event is a dessert potluck. For more information, call 235-7655.

Gingerbread prizes given

The following prizes were awarded to the participants in the "Festival of Gingerbread:" first place, "New Sisters" by Carri Thurman and Kate Crowly; second, "Dutch Rowhouses" by Carol Standaert; third: "Pratt's Pride" by Joni Smith-Yager; best local/historical, "Salty Dawg" by John Gillman, most imaginative/creative, "CafE Cups" by Laurie Walker and staff of CafE Cups; director's choice, "Land's End" by Tanya Norris; people's choice, "Salty Dawg." The show will continue through Friday. Admission is $2 for adults and children over 12. Members and children under 12 are free.

'Driftwood' wants entries

The Kenai Peninsula College's literary and art magazine, "Driftwood," is soliciting memoirs, essays, stories, poetry, prose, poems, novel excerpts and artwork from Alaska authors and artists for the 2003 edition. Prose must be limited to 2,000 words, poems to two pages, typed, double-spaced. Multiple entries are accepted. Artwork and photography must be size appropriate for photocopying or scanning, and no pencil or charcoal drawings may be submitted. Pratt closing next month

The Pratt Museum will be closed Dec. 30 through Feb. 4 for yearly maintenance and repairs. The business office will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum will also be closed Dec. 25. Call 235-8635 for more information.

Instrumentalist to play

Local musician Richard Olson will perform Christmas instrumental music on the acoustic guitar at the following locations throughout the holiday: tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Don Jose's, Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Espresso Express, and Saturday from 3-5 p.m. at Captain's Coffee and from 8-11 p.m at the Living Room Cafe.
