Ideas sought for logo, motto
by Chris Bernard

The Kachemak Emergency Services board is holding a contest to find itself a logo and motto.

The design should incorporate a fire and emergency medical services theme, as well as something about the service area, the board announced in a news release. The service area runs from the Old Sterling Highway to the Caribou Hills, but does not cover Homer city limits or Kachemak City.

"It's a way to draw attention to the service area," said board chair Scott Cunningham. "But it's also a chance for us to involve the community. The community is the reason we exist in the first place."

The logo should be four or five colors, and of a design simple enough to be used on uniform patches and on all the equipment.

For a motto, the board is seeking something "descriptive and concise." As an example, the board listed the City of Homer's motto, "The City That Works."

Smokey Bay Air has donated a flightseeing trip for two as a prize for the winning logo designer. A $50 cash prize will be awarded for the winning motto.

All entries become the sole property of KES, and submissions will be judged by the board. Deadline is Jan. 15.

Submissions should be mailed to KES Logo, P.O. Box 1849, Homer, Alaska, 99603.
