Homer's Best Bets

Holy corn starch! Did we get hammered this week or what? Down in town, poor Nutcracker ballerinas had to wear XtraTufs under their tutus to get to rehearsal Monday. Tuesday night, a big sloppy blizzard dumped a gazillion tons of what looked like leftover Thanksgiving mashed potatoes on the hills around town. To top it all off, a tree fell in the wilderness and in fact did make a sound as it knocked out power and caused 1,000 people to scream when the heat went off.

One-year-old Jack Faber was a tough customer, but did get a chance to visit Santa at Nomar on Nov. 29

Well, the Homer Electric crews dug in and got power back up, the snowplow patrol cleared roads, and once again we emerged from winter chaos. We fired up the wood stove, lit a few candles and waited out the storm. Who needed flashlights when the weather cleared and a big full moon glowed down upon us?

Winter is not just a comin' in, it's here in full force. Did you ever doubt it? Get out the skis, put down the snow shovel and head out and enjoy it just like these Best Bets:
