Vocabulary contestants noted
Congratulations to Homer Middle School eighth-grader Rachel Bornheimer and seventh-grader Emily Kizzia for their first-place spot in the Reader's Digest National Word Power Challenge. This is a vocabulary contest designed for schools nationwide for grades four through eight.

Students from all 50 states and the territories, as well as home-schooled students, are invited to participate. There are four levels of competition: classroom, grade, state and national.

A gracious thank you goes to the Homer Bookstore, Captain's Coffee, the Fat Rack and Eagle Quality Center for their donations and academic support. Also, a big thank you to the many helpers who made this event possible: scorers Kathy Pfundt, Sandy Tyrer, Debbie Vantrease and Margie Belieu; secretarial staff Marcia Boone and Cindy Koplin; teacher facilitators Suzanne Bishop, Nancy Vait and Toni Parlow; and principal Glen Szymoniak.
