Mariners gear up for basketball season




Homer High School is gearing up for the basketball season with practice beginning at 3:30 Monday in the gymnasium.

There will be a boys' basketball parent meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 29 in the high school library.

A "Meet the Mariners" " community event with team Introductions and scrimmages, as well as a bake sale fundraising auction will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the gym.

The JV Boys Basketball first home game vs. Seldovia will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the gym.

Homer Glacier Kings Bantam team loses 2, wins 2 against KPHA

Homer Glacier Kings Bantam team played four games against Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association Bantams last weekend. Homer lost the first two games in close matches 4-1 and 3-1 on Saturday at the Kevin Bell Arena.

On Sunday, Homer traveled to Soldotna and defeated KPHA 2-1 and 5-3. Sunday's wins were Homer's first against KPHA this year, having already played KPHA seven times this year.

The Homer team is a small one this year with only 10 skaters and a goalie.

The Bantams will face the KPHA U16 girls and AHA Comets at home the weekend of Dec. 7-9.
