Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Dave Carey has named two long-time borough employees to department head positions in his administration. Their appointments were confirmed by the assembly Tuesday night.

Carey tapped Jack Maryott as director of the borough's Solid Waste Department and David Tressler was named director of the borough's Maintenance Department.

Maryott has worked for the borough since 1992, serving as a Central Peninsula Landfill operator/manager from 1992 to 1996, then as Homer Landfill operator until 1998. He worked for six years as the borough's central peninsula road inspector, before becoming Central Peninsula Landfill Manager in 2004.

In his new position, Maryott will be responsible for borough solid waste activities, including hazardous waste collection, recycling, environmental and litter collection programs, and ensuring that the borough's solid waste facilities are complying with local, state and federal regulations.

Tressler has been employed with the borough maintenance department for 25 years, during which time he served in several capacities, including five years as the department's foreman and director from May 2001 to April 2006. Since 2006, he has been the department's general foreman.

As maintenance director, Tressler will be responsible for all building maintenance and repair of borough buildings including schools, shops and other facilities. He would work with local, state and federal agencies to ensure all regulations are met and enforced. He would be responsible for hiring maintenance personnel.
