Homer Foundation announces grant awards

Staff report

At the Homer Foundation Board of Trustees annual meeting Nov. 12, held at the Land's End Resort Quarter Deck, Ann Keffer and Buck Laukitis were approved for three-year terms on the board of trustees, and recognition was given to outgoing board member Curt Olson after eight years of service.

Members of the Youth Advisory Committee announced funds for a $6,000 grant award are available for this year. Following nominations by the audience for Homer area projects, and additional funds donated from the audience, $500 was awarded to each of the following: Rotary Club of Homer Downtown's homeless youth project specifically working with the Boys and Girls Club summer program, the Kachemak Kids Early Learning Center's "natural playground" and South Peninsula Haven House to support recent emergency repairs that shut the center down unexpectedly.

"I was pleased with the projects nominated from the floor, but totally taken aback by the audience response to contribute additional resources," said Homer Foundation Director Joy Steward.
