The Share the Spirit Holiday Gift Basket Program is in full swing and basket applications for households in need are available at local human services agencies and churches. If the church you attend or the human services agency where you or a member of your household currently receives assistance doesn't have a current application, have them call our instruction line at 235-7466; we will fax or email them one.

If you would like to assist with this program, you have many choices:

* Make a monetary donation by mail to P. O. Box 3218, Homer, AK 99603 or drop a donation off at Wells Fargo Bank;

* Choose an ornament or two from the "Gift Trees" located around town, follow the instructions and help bring joy to a needy child;

* Participate in our nonperishable food drive, via your student's school;

* Volunteer and/or eat at the annual spaghetti feed being held on Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Homer Elks Lodge (volunteers should call 299-0343 or 299-0202);

* Help wrap gifts beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, or pack baskets from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19. Both of these activities take no prior registration and are at Homer High School's commons area.

* Better yet, really dive in and become a member of the Adopt-A-Family Program where you or your group provide food and gifts for one needy household. You only need to fill out one of the adopt-a-family applications available at Wells Fargo or leave a message at 235-7466. We will get back to you.

Helping is easy, comes in a variety of options and can easily fit any budget.
