Wrestlers get pre-Rumble mat time
The Homer High School wrestling team hit the mats in dual-meet action in the Matanuska and Susitna valleys last weekend, battling their way to an overall record of 11-9.

On Friday, the Mariners went 5-5 as they faced off against host Wasilla and Dimond. Homer's 135-pounder, Monte Garroutte, won a pair of matches, including one by technical fall over Sam Loeb of Wasilla. Louden Greiner (119) split a pair, with his win coming over Wasilla's Bo Kittley.

Adam Hediger (171) also split, losing a tough decision to Warrior Jake Wade. Jim Pollack (189) was 0-2 on the afternoon, including a technical fall loss to two-time state champion Jed Wade. Heavyweight Jared Weaver split his two Friday matches.

On Saturday, the Mariners squared off with Service and host Colony, compiling a record of 6-4.

The Mariners will play host to their Round-Robin Rumble beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Homer High School gym.
