  • William E. Plant admitted stealing a safe from Marquis Furniture Nov. 4. The safe had been pried open with a crowbar, its contents removed, and had been thrown into the Anchor River.

  • Heavy snowfall caused avalanches along the Sterling Highway delaying mail delivery in Homer. At least two cars were hit by avalanches, and one report said an Alaska Railroad locomotive was struck.

  • Leo Rhode was named Citizen of the Year by the Homer Chamber of Commerce.
