Teacher says thanks
I would like to thank the students, and parents of the Homer High School Mariner Band that nominated me to be BP Teacher of the Year. Special thanks to KPBSD Superintendent Donna Peterson, the KPBSD School Board, and especially Homer School Board member Deb Germano for her efforts regarding this nomination in my behalf.

British Petroleum is to be commended for promoting a teacher recognition program for Alaska school districts, and the awards received from them, because of you, are a highlight in my teaching career of 23 years. I feel honored having received this distinction, knowing several teachers, my co-workers that I regard with very high esteem, who are just as, if not more so, deserving of this award.

Recognition programs, such as this, really make a teacher feel appreciated. I would like to encourage parents and students to take time this year to nominate the teacher of their choice for this distinction. Send a message to your favorite teacher that is guaranteed to brighten their day.

William B. Searle, band director, Homer High School and Homer Middle School
